The Darwin City Brass Band calls for Expressions of Interest for the position of Musical Director.

The Darwin City Brass Band is a community brass band, made up of volunteer members. The band is funded by City of Darwin for ‘Service Delivery Music for the Community.’ The band has been funded by City of Darwin since its inception in 1981 with funding being applied for on an annual or triennial basis over that time. The present funding agreement with City of Darwin is current until 30 June 2027.

The organization consists of a learner group, accepting learners from all age groups and a main band. Two roles in the band receive an honourarium, the Musical Director and the Training Coordinator. The Training Coordinator runs the Learner program, and is a separate position from that of Musical Director, however the Musical Director is encouraged to engage with the Training Coordinator in order to assess and encourage developing players to progress to the main band, which is the primary responsibility of the Musical Director. Two volunteer roles assist the Musical Director, the Deputy Musical Director, and the Drum Major (responsible for all matters relating to any marching band performances). The band rehearses once a week and has a busy performance program throughout the year.

The position of Musical Director reports to the management committee and receives an honourarium.

The primary objectives of the position of Musical Director are to:

• ●  Maintain an ambassadorial role for the Darwin City Brass Band in the local community.
